Glenn C, Hybarger, 85, died Tuesday, August 31, 2010 in Independence.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at the Penwell-Gabel Webb & Rodrick Chapel with the Reverend John Wilson, pastor, officiating. Interment will be at the Mt. Hope Cemetery. Friends may call at the Penwell-Gabel Webb & Rodrick Chapel from 12 noon until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday when the casket will be closed and remain closed. . The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Glenn Cecil Hybarger was born on October 24, 1924 to George R. and Edythe (Moore) Hybarger in Kansas City, Missouri. He lived his entire life in Independence, Kansas, attending local schools until his junior year. At that time he enrolled in San Marcos Military Academy in San Marcos, Texas, graduating in 1943 with honors. He then enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served as a motor machinist on a PT boat. In 1946 he received an honorable discharge. He married Betty Mahood on October 10, 1945, in Springfield, Missouri as Westminster Presbyterian Church. They returned to Independence, where he ran his fatherís business, Hybargerís Furniture Store, until it closed.

In 1949 he began employment with Burlingame Distributing Company as a salesperson. He continued working in the same capacity when it was purchased by Famous Brands Company of Topeka. After 40 years of employment, he retired in 1990 as manager of the local branch.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, a lifetime member of the VFW, and a member of the Independence Country Club, where he was an avid golfer, for over 60 years.

Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Shirley Hybarger Dennis and great-grandson Aiden Hybarger.

Survivors include his wife of almost 65 years; his three children Linda and her husband Larry Spencer, Cindy and her husband Joe Beaty, and his son George and his wife Patsy. Grandchildren include Amy Wade; Matthew and Jonathan Spencer; Grant and Ryan Hybarger, and Jonathan and Lauren Beaty. Surviving also are six great-grandchildren; Spencer and Allie Wade, Emma and Katelyn Spencer, Aubriana Hybarger and Brennan Beaty.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to the First Presbyterian Preschool in Independence.
