Mrs. Mary Ellen Eidson, 87, of Independence, died Sunday evening at Mercy Hospital.
Cremation has taken place. Celebration of Life Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday at the Church of the Epiphany Episcopal with the Reverend Gerald Eytcheson, officiating. Inurnment will be at the Mt. Hope Cemetery. Friends may call to register at the church. Services are under the direction of the Penwell-Gabel Webb & Rodrick Chapel.
The family has suggested memorial remembrances to the Church of the Epiphany, Episcopal and remembrances will be received at the funeral home.
Mary Ellen Eidson was born April 19, 1923 at Mayetta, Kansas, the daughter of Amos John Laird and Mary Elizabeth (Martin) Laird. She attended first through eighth grade at a one room school near Mayetta and later attended and graduated from Montgomery County High School in Independence in 1941.
Mary was the office manager and bookkeeper for Ashcraft Tire Company for 43 years before her retirement in 1988.
Mrs. Eidson was a member of the Church of the Epiphany, Episcopal and a member of the St. Martha’s Guild , the Altar Guild, an office assistant extraordinary and served as Church Treasurer for over 40 years.
On June 19, 1947 in Arkansas City, Kansas, she was united in marriage to Thomas Earl Eidson. Mr. Eidson preceded his wife in death on August 20, 1976.
Survivors include: a son, Laird and his wife Marty Eidson of Independence; two grandchildrenKelli Eidson Ebert of Independence and Shawn Eidson of Merriam, Kansas; two great grandchildren, Kellen Ebert and Kara Eidson; a brother Robert Laird of Coffeyville, Kansas; and two sisters, Carolyn Brinkmeyer and Nancy Dewey, both of Bartlesville, Oklahoma.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; one sister, Ann Proctor; two brothers, Dean Larid and Donald Laird; and a great granddaughter.
